Working in IT for the past 5+ years I have picked up quite a bit of experience while doing some interesting things. First off, big shout out to Gav for helping me adopt Linux on both my Work and Home machines. Linux is great and not as difficult to use as Redmond or Mr Jobs would have you believe. Ubuntu is so easy to use that even my technophobic mam can use it!
As well as working with Linux Servers & Desktops my main job area has been dealing with windows desktops, laptops & servers. I started on an IT Service Desk supporting over 100 users on laptops & desktops. I have also implemented and supported a Windows 2003 Terminal Server environment using HP Linux & Windows based Thin Clients.
Over the past couple of years I also took over the Citrix Administration role supporting at first Presentation Server 4.0 on windows 2003 and recently implemented and migrated to XenApp 5.0 for Windows 2003. The user base for this environment is global with connecting devices ranging from Desktops & Laptops to Thin Clients.
One of the most interesting projects I worked on was building and installing a Linux Proxy Server to replace an old NT based system. To do this I used Squid & Dansguradian for the caching/filtering. I then tied it into AD using Samba/Winbind so that we could create separate filter lists for users/groups. Once this was all working I ended up writing a frontend with PHP/MySQL to allow reporting and browser based administrating of Black/White lists.
