Ok, I can hear what your saying. Yes Netbooks are old news with the launch of the Ipad, whatever! If Apple fan boi's want to spend money on a piece of Taiwanese white plastic with touch screen worth less than an Asda mobile but priced at a small car, good to them! Leaves the real computing world to us. Any way back to the story......

So there I was half asleep flicking through Freeview and up pops QVC with a new HP stylish butterfly netbook. I was about to flip over when they started talking about the spec...... wow I have been sleeping,
Netbooks actually have a good spec these days, not that I would actually buy one. After all there still a fad to sell mobile broadband & advertising has no effect on me........ So returning early from lunch the next day I see I have scooped a bargin Netbook for less than £70. Here is the Ebay blurb.....
Acer Aspire one netbook
Works but has faults needs repair.
The faults are when powering up it makes a loud ringing sound and takes a few mins to start through this does'nt always happen! Also only half the keyboard seems to works! I believe that windows may need re-installing as when trying to access some programs it tells me there missing!
I have only had this laptop for a year and its in good conditon apart from a few scratches.
Any Questions please feel free to email me
So to be honest I do not really expect much, at worst I can sell it as spares. Any way it arrives the following Monday & to my surprise it is as described, not a knock off and to the spec. So i turn it on and "beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep" ( ouch! ) & windows loads. Not bad, hmmm no one on ebay seems to now about DBAN , but hey I will do that before I install UNR :) . So I fire up FireFox from the desktop..... or so I thought "Can not find RUNDLL32.exe", wow windows is screwed!
So I have a cool Acer Netbook with corrupt windows, no worries Live Ubuntu USB stick in & reboot. So here I have an Acer Netbook with Ubuntu 10.04 Live USB...... so lets see what is not working. Ok I have no 'p' or '.' keys?Quickly popup the Keyboard and hmmm...... I am sure that is coffee under the keyboard. Explains the lack of 'p' and the stuck keys at boot.

So quickly back on ebay and order a replacement Keyboard for £16. Then quickly check everything else. Looks great! So I shutdown and start downloading Ubuntu Netbook Remix and wait for my Keyboard to arrive. Below is a selection of pics of my new baby penguin to be. Please join me for part 2 where I will go through the UNR install and see what this Netbook fuss is all about.
